We've had Snodgrass for several months now. He started off slow but now is the happiest cat we have ever seen.

We said no and wound up with Snodgrass march 9, 2016

Been awhile since the last entry. We lost Tobey to old age and she had to be put to sleep. We got a new one we call Snodgrass and he is a pistol. He's like paint all over the place. Rarely he finds time but he has to stop and sleep like any 2 month old kitten has to after playing all day. If he isn't sleeping he is either playing of wanting his ears rubbed. Still won't go for being picked up so there's no cutting his claws yet. Can't stop him from watching the critters and looking out the front door on a nice day. His toys are everywhere and he loves his overpriced ball in track. He won't leave my wife alone at night and I wind up playing with him to keep his attention off her. Now I'm fortunate enuff he is out till the wife gets home and he's back to his playful self.

We had to go get another one

Tink-black/grey tabby female- With the recent passing of Pudge we felt like we were missing our full compliment. A local rescue called A New Leash On Life was where we got her. ^ weeks old and just full of energy. Since she came here yesterday she has worn herself out playing. She has an alpha personality and will keep the boys in line. She, like Mario Lemew, will be photogenic during a nap.

Our First One

Smidgen (Whitey)-Euthanised 01/28/06 at approx. 12:30pm from liver failure which he didn't suffer since it happened overnight-male fixed all white-2nd cat like that I've ever seen-given to us as a kitten in 89 because I could get their cat to come to me and he wouldn't go to them. He started it all. Pure gentleman-would let any other cat eat his food but was only cat to drive out intruder. He loved pizza crust, shrimp, drinking water out of a running faucet and a very small piece of chocolate once in a while.
06/11/06 Well Smidge has been gone nearly 5 months now and we still call out his name occasionally. 10/21/07 We we're out having dinner recently and ordered shrimp. We started reminicing about him and his love of seafood.

Our Second Cat

With a heavy heart I write this. She had succumbed to her age and with her health problems had to be euthanized on 05/15/08.

Trubbles (Toots)-female calico rescue kitten from a foster home-she climbed up my pants leg before her MALE calico bro did so she came home with us-friend for Smidgen. She is a year younger than the first one so she is coming up on 16. She is the first to say it's dinner time and is a bit of a bad attitude at times or she will lick the newest one. 06/11/06 She has started walking around the house as of late meowing loudly and having to sit under my chin and on my shoulder. 10/21/07 You can see the effects of being older are taking their toll with the missing on a jump up to a table. She is also having more attitude problems at times too. It's just her and we can't be mad at her. She still has a good appetite and starts her demanding to be fed a couple of hours before it's time.

Our Third One

Twitty Orange tabby male (passed away in his sleep 02/12/06)-gotten the day Conway Twitty died and was a rescue that they called Barnaby. Our first one after we had moved from an apartment to a house. He ate everything in sight and was the first at the dinner table when his favorites like pork, steak, beef, and chicken was being served for dinner. Didn't like the newest ones when they got here but finally accepted them. 06/11/06 We still miss him and it was the day we got him a while ago on 06/05/93. 10/21/07 When we see another orange tabby like him we call out his name. He led a heck of a good life while he was here.

Finally Our Fourth One

Smokey Joe (Bub)-Passed on 03/26/12 from old age... mostly gray w/white male fixed gotten as a kitten-wife's cat fat but happy. Gotten from pet store where we sold stuff-large flea market-so large it was built on old 5/8 mile racetrack. Took me 6 mos of begging for another to get him but I got a cell call to bring out a cat box and kitten food so I knew. Chases Trubbles. 06/11/06 He is getting lovey more these days and with his weight it’s something. 10/21/07 This rascal hasn't changed a bit except for the fact he's even more lovey now a days. He still has to go out and patrol the back yard occasionally.

Our Fifth One-She Was On Death's Door

Hobie (Hobies) -Most beautiful brown tiger stripe you'll ever find-female fixed. Found by our animal lover neighbors eating people food at a restaurant and starving to death. She was pegged at 3 mos of age and 2lbs. She ate crunchy from my hand immediately and since she had upper respitory infection she spent her recuperation period isolated eating two 5.5oz cans of moist and a small bowl of crunchy food a day plus vitamin supplements. She found out that there is a never ending supply of food here-no matter how many are here-just put out another plate at dinner. Likes to live in basement most of time on her pillow but comes up when I can't sleep and stay up all night. 06/11/06 She's a bundle of love to me now. I can't even eat in peace (that's okay with me) and she knocked over a glass of milk since it was in the way of getting to me. 10/21/07 She's still a bit skitterish and won't come out of the kitchen but she has been staying upstairs more now than in the basement.

Our Sixth and Seventh Ones

Toby-(Tobes)White w/ black markings that make her look like a cow pattern-female-was pure feral. Live trapped and after check out-shots-etc. was allowed to live in basement where she was for 3 yrs. till w brought her food up one stair at a time and she found out her thinking was wrong. Wife pets her and she's in love with Smokey Joe. She's all over the house when she thinks were not around and loves the 2 kittens we adopted. These two ran together before we brought them in. 10/21/07 She's getting braver as of late. I can come closer to her without her running off and when she's with her boyfriend Smokey my wife can rub her.

Pudge -Mostly black w/ white paws-female fixed. Showed up next door and lived under their deck with her feral daughter. We fed them and Pudge came on the deck and jumped on my shoulder and went to sleep. She was taken in to the house a few days later by my wife who seen her sitting in the rain at the back door. She apparently was an unspayed house cat that got out and had kittens. She is one of the super affectionate cats and when you rub her back she purrs loudly and her cute little tongue keeps going in and out. 10/21/07 She's not changed a bit at all. She has no issues with any body else and wants her lovin'.

Our Eighth One

Bozey(Buzz)- Male light gray w/ a little white fixed. Our animal lover neighbors found this one in a litter dropped off at the local elementary school. He wouldn't stay with the gang and was brought to us. He became our mouser for the neighborhood when the mouser around here passed away.He lives on kitty treats and some crunchy but eats dinner in/out doors . He has a bad attitude indoors and hates everybody but hides and goes to sleep indoors now and then. Our poor little guy contracted a fatal case of FIP and had to be put to sleep on 08/30/07. He will be sadly missed by us as well as many of the local kids of which he loved so dearly. He will be missed most of all by the neighbors who brought him to us. He was the freeest of spirits that led his life out of doors all year around no matter what the weather. He enjoyed playing in the fresh fallen snow like a kitten. 10/21/07 We still really miss him for the fact he was loved by the whole neighborhood. The school that he walked the kids to has been razed and now he's gone.

Our Ninth One

Casandra (Cassie-Puddin'-Ms. Buzz)-Female brown tiger stripe fixed-rescue from county pound at the countries largest 2 day adoption fair-Detroit Zoo. Got one of my feelings this one was okay just needed some straightening out. She must have been kept in the bathroom all day. Since she wanted to get out when the doors when they were open for awhile we put her in there and she had no problems. She has gotten out at times but walks around the yard like the males do (in the yard-not over the fence)and found out she doesn't like winter. She gives Bozey a hard time. She has started playing w/ the younger ones and can't wait for the laser to come out. She sits and looks at me until I get it out.UPDATE: she has earned the right to go out when she want's to since she remains around the house in the backyard only. Her watching the squirrels eat and the Cardinals nest without any of her hunting aggression coming out keeps her busy. She goes to sleep earlier and sleeps longer now. She doesn't beg to play with the red dot since her needs are taken care of outside. 06/11/06 She's getting more and more street smart but hangs around the house. She's taking over the mouser duties from Buzz now and there's no mice to be found anywhere. 10/21/07 She's becoming another Bozey now. We even call her Ms. Buzz. She will probably be found down the street in the same places Buzz was.

Our Tenth One What a Character

Sport(Snodgrass)-Male orange/white tabby/Siamese mix fixed. Was found on the streets of Detroit at 5 weeks of age with upper respiratory infection/ear mites and taken to a vet for a week of treatment. I got another feeling when I held him and took him home to foster him. He came with a $300 check and his vet bill was paid in full. Never could find him a home and I'm glad. He's everyone's friend and super affectionate-playful-curious. He found out what steak-shrimp-pork-chicken is and wants his portion first (who is spoiled at our house?) also he wants kitty treats 8 times a day but doesn't put on any weight. He plays with throwaway stuff more than toys. I've never seen anything like him and never will. My wife loves him and is so glad he came here. Loves playing w/ laser dot.UPDATE: he's getting worse but not in the usual manner. He runs around the house in a blinding terror as the wife gets ready for work in the morning and is fairly calm during the day till she comes home and off he goes again.06/11/06 He just turned a year old 05/10/06 and is still a character. 10/21/07 As he gets older he gets happier. We keep boxes for him to run into as he comes into the front room at full speed. He cries for my wife to come back in the house when she goes outside. He's like a little kid with him laying on her when she watches TV.

Our Eleventh One

Clare-(Clary) Female calico fixed from a county pound 200 miles away. She was one of the 155 kittens my old rescue got last year. I used to drive 18k mi/yr rescuing and showing and transporting animals to vets. She plays with Sport. She loves the laser dot. She is incredibly affectionate and sleeps with my wife. Her coat is the softest feeling one I have ever felt and I've handled tons of cats. 06/11/06 She's being more friendly toward strangers now and still loves to play with Sport. 10/21/07 Taking a shower around here is done around Clare. She makes sure you're okay with getting all wet and smelling different. She makes sure she gets in on a spot in the bed while your trying to sleep.

Our Twelfth and Final One

Shadow-Pure Russian Blue male and is big! 11/15/07 Unfortunately he got sick from some unknown illness and passed away a few hours later. He lives in our bedroom in a box or on the bed. He loves to be rubbed and I can't go in the room without expecting him to show up like your 'Shadow". He came to the old rescue in need of medical needs (ear mites) and was assumed to be female as the surrenderer said. He needed shaving for mats and wound up looking like a poodle cut. Poor cat went thru a spay procedure to find out he was a neutered male(anybody want to know why I left the rescue?) but he came thru like a trooper and is fine. Recently he's been coming into the living room to sit in the bay window. He has found out dinner is served every night at pretty much the same time and let's me know he's first on the list by talking to me from the hallway outside the bedroom.06/11/06 Shadow is now all over this level of the house and wanting his dinner and milk when he knows it's me. He sits behind my head on my chair and looks out the window or sits on the arm of the chair wanting to be rubbed. 10/21/07 He lost weight when I was in the hospital but it hasn't hurt him. He eats like it's his last meal.

Lucky 13

There was one then two and so on till there were thirteen. (Neutered Male) This is Mario Lemew (hey our vet thought it was a cute name to) that was born on the 4th of July of 2008. I'm not sure of his patriotism but as a kitten he has to be the spring loaded version of a feline. When we saw him at the Detroit Zoo's 'Come meet your best friend at the zoo' we fell in love with his antics in the cage. On the way home he was busy in the carrier playing with a ball. Little did we know what was in store when the carrier door was opened. Any one ever pulled the pin on a grenade and stepped back. Destruction has never crossed his mind but new friends and a new place to live with cat toys and a cat hotel was to his liking. He had to be taken to the vet for a sore leg and general check up. The vet said he would be fine and he was just hanging by it while playing. Mario made friends with Sport soon after arriving and those two become a tornado while chasing each other. Mario has gotten just about all the cats revved up no matter what their age. He has become a ladie's man with all the females. Even the mouser with her attitude gets along with him best she can. A lot of cats would run after being hissed at and/or swatted but not Mario. He comes back for more till Cassie gives up and just sits down to the daily feeding in the morning. He has seen winter come along with Thanksgiving and Christmas. He didn't go up the tree as we expected but he enjoyed all the stuff that's put out under it. Easter is approaching now and the decorations are enticing. Mario is not at all destructive but has to see what everything is. My wife's getting ready for work is when throwing his favorite ball to play fetch or turning on the red dot to be chased has to come into play. He shows his happiness on her days off so he must be trying to keep her from leaving each day. Excuse the lack of many if any pictures of him as sitting still and being awake is rare. This first 6 months has been interesting to say the least. Mario like others must have been destined for a life of luxury with the rest of the gang.
